I realize that when bad shit happens, its not the end of the world. I just get through the day, get to sleep without picking up, and start over the next day. Over time, and with hard work on myself, I have become much more comfortable in the present moment. I am not especially cursed with the hardships that life throws at me. When your a dope fiend, you are never comfortable. The only comfort comes from removing yourself from reality.

Its role in my life had grown too large, but (like many people who drink too much to cope with stress), I found it difficult to moderate. “In for a glass, in for a bottle” was my usual approach. Still, I found it difficult to maintain the motivation to quit for more than a month-long “liver holiday” now and again.
